Teaching Style

I love teaching and working with all levels of students. I believe all children can learn, but each in different ways. I am available to help your child find academic success. I am patient, easy going, and considerate. My goal is to provide the best education possible. I am a firm believer in teaching through discovery and in providing a constructivist approach to learning. I believe all children can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate surroundings and learning experiences. A few good educators can make a world of difference to a child's education. I strive to make a difference in all of my students' lives.

Experience Summary

As a college graduate, I was very much driven to achieve a level of excellence in education. I have earned a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, and completed my thesis leading to a Master's degree in Economic Policy. These have enabled me to gain an understanding in many areas of math and science. In addition, I have learned extensive grammatical skills due to writing research papers and laboratory reports, along with essays in many various areas of study. During the last 13 years I have tutored students (all levels) in Mathematics, Sciences, and Economics and English. For two years I taught as the MCAS Math Instructor, Roxbury Community College, where I taught math concepts and methods to high-school students in preparation for statewide assessment tests. This involved developing and implemented unit plans and assessments, the assessment of individual learning styles and adapted teaching methods to fit. I am proud to say I created a classroom environment that engaged student interest, leadership and stimulated learning.

Teaching Style

Our children today need to be encouraged and given the opportunity to develop. Some students aren't able to get the attention they need in a classroom setting with all of the other students. All they may need is one on one time to help explain the concept in a way they understand. I'm a very "hands on" tutor and like developing fun, creative ways for the students to learn. I am attentive, encouraging, patient, and considerate and will be available to help the children succeed. My goal is to make a positive difference in each students life.

As a graduate of Pfeiffer University's Pre Medical program, I feel that I am qualified to tutor students in the fields of math and science. I graduated Magna Cum Laude and finished in the top ten in my class. With a double major in Pre-Med and Biology, and a minor in Chemistry, I have gained understanding of these areas and can help other students learn and understand the concepts presented in these particular subjects. In high school, I tutored Geometry and Algebra. In college, I tutored Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Calculus. Currently, I’m working with my church on Tuesday afternoons where my mother developed a community outreach program with Central Elementary School where we tutor five K-2 graders in math and reading. My goal is to make a difference in the lives of our children one student at a time.

I love teaching in an environment where the student is made to feel comfortable and that their efforts are rewarded and appreciated. I like to provide my students with as many tools as possible to make sure they get the most thorough understanding of a particular concept. Often times I use hands-on materials, one-on-one settings, and technology based instruction. One person at a time helping one student at a time can make the difference.

Experience Summary

I began tutoring before I began teaching. I have always had a passion for seeing students become successful math students. In the last three years I have tutored over 20 students privately in the areas of reading for grades K-5 and in mathematics from kindergarten to Algebra through Trigonometry. In addition to my tutoring experience I have branched into teaching basic math courses at the college level. I feel that my experience working in community based tutoring groups and structured programs are a great asset.

I love teaching children, seeing them learn and discover things for the first time. I also love the challenge of finding different and creative ways to communicate information so that each student can be engaged in a subject and understand the material. I have found that being patient and consistent, expressing clear expectations, and providing immediate and appropriate feedback creates a positive learning environment for academic achievement. After volunteering and instructing summer literacy classes in Clearwater, Florida, I discovered my passion for teaching and children. I pursued an education degree at the University of Florida, where I earned my bachelors in 2009 and finished a masters with an emphasis in literacy and an ESOL endorsement in 2010. I also completed several school placements throughout the program, concentrating in kindergarten, third, and fifth grades. I recently accepted a job teaching in a charter school in Philadelphia. I enjoy working with children of all ages, especially targeting struggling early readers.

I have been fortunate to earn degrees and work in the fields of education and science. I want to help others achieve their dreams in pursuing careers especially in math and science. I graduated with a 4.0 GPA in undergrad/valedictorian, Class of 1994. As the eldest of 5 children, I have always tutored relatives. The love to help others love learning continued into my undergraduate studies and beyond. I begin each lesson with the understanding that different students have different approaches to understanding the same concept. I am therefore always prepared to use different approaches to help students who need extra help. Moreover, since I teach science and mathematics, I use day-to-day illustrations and innovative materials to facilitate students' learning. I am very patient and willing to discuss lessons with students who need extra help after school.

I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology with Physics and Chemistry backing. I recently graduated from a doctoral degree program in Environmental Management with focus on hydro-chemical modeling of water resources using multivariate statistical methods and mass balance methods. I have taught Environmental Science, Physics, Chemistry, Physical Science, Algebra and Geometry for three years at the Passaic County Community College's college and Upward Bound Programs in New Jersey. I have also tutored students of the same program during the three year period. I am therefore confident that I would be able to teach the above mentioned courses without any difficulty.

I love seeing students succeed. I am an excellent teacher because I really care, therefore I put in extra effort to planning and making lessons effective. I am a graduate of the University of California, Irvine. I originally studied Chemistry and Biological Sciences for the first 3 years maintaining a high GPA. I became allergic to many base reagents used in synthesis that precluded me from completing this educational path. I completed my education in business receiving degrees in economics and business administration. I went to work with a global consulting firm implementing financial systems. Since college I have continued to tutor mathematics, chemistry, biological science and physics. I have tutored for over 20 years intermittently. Many of my students completed their educations at universities including the University of California, Notre Dame, Syracuse, CSULB, etc.
