My own experiences with academics and from tutoring have shown me that practice does make perfect. When tutoring, I have often drafted my own quizzes that focused on key subject matter to help solidify the material. I have discovered that this method helps work through the most difficult concepts while highlighting areas that need extra attention. Nevertheless, it is important to have patience and tailor a lesson to the individual student's learning style in order to help make them a successful student.

During my undergraduate years at Brandeis University, I worked as a teaching assistant and volunteer tutor. My responsibilities as a teaching assistant entailed leading review sessions, holding office hours and grading exams/papers. Additionally, I volunteered for a year with the 'Waltham Group' (a student run non-profit organization) and tutored local elementary school students. Both my undergraduate and graduate education is heavily concentrated in the biological sciences. My education has been supplemented with 5 years of laboratory experience. Furthermore, I have developed strong time-management skills by completing 3 Bachelors degrees in a total of 4 years from a Tier 1 University as a well as a Master of Science degree in 1 year from a Tier 1 medical school. I believe that the possibilities of learning are incredible, especially with understanding the tools of both teaching and learning whether that is textbooks, computers, or something else. It is important to ascertain how a student learns, and adjust to them. I’ve discovered in my teaching of children that it is critical to create a foundation of understanding then build upon it through repetition of the basic ideals while adding to what is already established. Children are amazingly open to new ideas, and take on new challenges with excitement, so it is my job as instructor to guide them in their journey. I also feel that early learning is fundamental to the way individuals learn later in life, so helping children learn how to overcome obstacles becomes a way of expanding their educational possibilities.

Throughout my higher educational career, I’ve been driven to learn as much as possible to help satisfy my enormous curiosity. I have earned a bachelor degree in English Literature, and am currently a MFA candidate in the creative writing program at Arizona State University. As part of my graduate funding, I work as a teaching assistant. The program requires constant training, and I enjoy taking part in understanding the way students learn. In addition to teaching at the university, I work with the Office of Youth Preparation—teaching not only the craft of poetry, but helping 4th and 5th graders develop language skills necessary to do well in school. Although I primarily work with the study of English, I study Spanish and have become proficient with the use of the language.

My passion is learning and my hope is to inspire in my students a genuine love of learning and to help them gain the skills necessary to become lifelong, independent learners. I believe all children can learn in an atmosphere that is encouraging, supportive and structured in such a way as to challenge without discouraging. I have acquired many different techniques and tools over the years and have learned that there is no one style of teaching that fits all. I have been actively involved in the field of education for 26 years as a high school English teacher, an elementary reading teacher, and as a school librarian. Teaching Style

I teach by example and I am methodical. I show a student how to solve a problem by going very slowly and by following a sequence of steps. I make sure that the student follows understands each step before moving on to the next one. I then ask the student to solve almost the exact same problem (with a slight change in numbers for example)so that the student learns the method and how to solve the problem by herself/himself. I am very patient but expect the student to be willing to learn. I tell students that learning a subject matter is more important than getting an A in a class - this is because 1. if you learn, chances are you won't forget (at least for a long while) and 2. you will get a good grade as a result.

I have been employed by the IBM corporation for the last 27 years. I held numerous positions in hardware development, software development, telecommunication network development, project management, solution architecture, performance analysis, and others. As much as I enjoy my job, I have passion in Mathematics. I develop new ideas related to my work and expand them into U.S. patents and external technical papers. I informally tutor family and friends attending high school or college. I was a Mathematics teaching assistant at the Univ. of Pittsburgh for 2 years and at the Univ. of Michigan at Ann Arbor for 3 years. I love teaching and sharing my knowledge with others. Teaching Style

I believe that excellence in teaching comes from the teacher's adaptation to student's specific needs. In particular, for some students, visualization may be the essential component for them to understand a certain concept or an idea in mathematics, and by furnishing examples and various proofs with pictures enables the student to learn the concept, whereas for other students it may be the algebraic equation that allows them to see a certain idea. In the first couple of sessions, I probe for the specific needs of the student and then am able to connect with that student so that he/she feels comfortable with the subject. I am a patient teacher and believe that all students are able to grasp the subject. I teach in a disciplined manner, so that the topic presented is coherent and follows a logical flow. I make sure that the theoretical concepts are internalized in a concrete example for the student. Above all, I carry a positive disposition wherever I go and encourage students to enjoy math.

I am a graduate of GaTech, with a Math and Psychology BA degrees. Aside from my two majors I have minors in Philosophy and Cognitive Science. During my years of high school and college, I have tutored students in Mathematics -- be it in calculus or statistics, or the math portion of the SAT. At the moment I work part-time at the Korean after school program, called Daekyo America Inc., as a math instructor for both high school and middle school. The desire to learn is one of the most important things anyone can learn. Whether it be a child seeing science for their first time, or an college adult ready to tackle the real world. I believe everyone is capable of discovering their true abilities sometimes they just need a bit of a nudge to help them find it. I like to use tutoring to help them determine how they learn. While I may employ a method of how to solve a problem, everyone learns differently. Some people are more audio learners while others require visual aides. My hope is to help them discover how they learn so they can maximize their own potential.

I am simulation programmer with a passion for mathematics and physics.
